The iPad 3 will feature a retina display, so we've been hearing for months now. Well Mac Rumors has got its hands on what it claims is this fabled display, and while it's not attached to an iPad 3, it is the closest anyone's come to confirming the screen's existence. That's it up there. The ruler is apparently to prove it's the same 9.7-inches across as on the original iPad and iPad 2. Obviously with no iPad to power it up there's no way of seeing it in action, so instead the sleuths got the microscope out. Placed next to an iPad 2 screen and inspected up close, the new screen's pixels look one quarter the size of those on the previous iPad. Zoom in even closer, and you can see there are twice as many pixels (made of red, green and blue elements) in each direction as in the same-size area on the iPad 2. And you know what that means: twice the resolution.
Apple could announce a second smaller version of iPad to compete against "Samsung Note" and "Amazon Fire".
Its screen size could be 7 inches.
iPad 3 is expected to come with a new, thinner LTE chipset to offer significantly higher download and upload speed compared to iPad 2. It will run on AT&T and Verizon's LTE networks. That would make the upcoming iPad the first iPad device to be 4G -- then Apple COO Tim Cook memorably said in February 2011 that 4G was not featured in the iPhone 4 because the thicker LTE chipsets "would force design compromises we're not willing to make."
iPad 3 will feature an 8 MP back camera capable of full HD(1080) video recording.
The front camera will however remain as it is in iPad 2.
Siri proved to be a huge selling point for the iPhone 4S, Apple is hoping it will do the same for iPad 3.
iPad 3 will feature Siri, the intelligent voice based assistant.
iPad 3 won't come with A6 - quad core processor as was expected. However it will feature a new dual core A5X processor.
iOS 5.1 will be released for iPad and iPhone. Some sources believe iOS 5.1 will be launched on 9th March.
It will bring Faceook integration to iPad and the iPhone and Japanese support for Siri.
A casing supposedly created for the iPad 3 has been leaked, with its size suggesting iPad 3 will support a large battery. This is necessary because of the power sucking retina display and the 4G LTE.
iPad 2 came with 512 MB RAM. Hopefully iPad 3 will come with 1 GB.
iPad 3 will be launched on 7th March, 2012. Here in this virtual iPad i've tried to track all the upcoming features in iPad 3.
